Enjoyable debut to a new series. Alex is a PI and can raise shades from the dead. She's a loner with a good group of friends (a cop, a lawyer, a medical examiner and her landlord) and a "cute" Chinese Crested dog. After someone tries to kill her, she ends up working with the new cop, Falin, and trying to stay alive long enough to solve the case.

What I liked:
* PC, the dog. He was adorable (and I have a soft spot for dogs).
* Death.
* The surprise at the end.
* Alex wasn't TSTL - she didn't do too many stupid things and even then, she thought about it before just blindly rushing in.

What I didn't like:
* Falin's secret was pretty obvious and it shouldn't have taken Alex so long to figure it out. Heck, I knew within a page or so of his character's introduction.
* The whole every man seems to fall for the heroine schlock is getting old.
* Alex's lack of business sense, it is no wonder she was so broke.

Lady Danielle aka The Book Huntress I get really sick of all the men in the book wanting/lusting/loving the heroine too!

Diane ~Firefly~ Yeah, that is almost the most used plot device in PNR/UF.
