We sold this at our Book Fair and I was drawn to the cupcakes so I took it home and read it and really liked it. Very cute book for adolescent girls.
Isabel is 12 years old and shares a love of baking with her mother. A mother who it seems suffers from some type of depression and needs to be handled with kid gloves sometimes. Her mother is opening up a cupcake shop and when Isabel enters a baking contest it must be obvious that she will be entering a cupcake recipe. It's not that simple to Isabel who really wants to do something completely different. You feel Isabels frustration with her mother, her desire to be true to herself, and her desire to experience other places besides her Oregon town. A great book about family relationships.
