Before Campbell's soup cans, Andy Warhol was a young boy growing up in Pittsburgh in the midst of the Great Depression. Christensen's work traces Warhol's journey in the simplest of ways, touching on the milestones of his life, ending with his brush with success in 1966. A postscript glosses over the rest of his career. Gorgeous illustrations in hazel pastels are as far from Warhol's style as his work was from mainstream in the beginning. For older elementary school students and tweens who are interested in art, but not quite ready to go beyond looking at pictures. - C
