First of all, I must say that this is totally different from the other Liss title which I read (The Ethical Assassin), but I knew that going in to it. I did not realize that it was the third title to feature thief taker Benjamin Weaver and the fact that I am reading (listening) to them out of order make my OCD cry.

Of course, that's my own fault for not researching things better.

Weaver is an ex-boxer, ex-thief, Portugese Jew living in 18th century London. The Machiavellian machinations of a mysterious individual pull Weaver into an investigation of the dealings of the East India Company, international intrigue, and murder.

Simon Vance did an excellent job of narrating the audio version. The period words of the text sounded completely natural. He handled the various accents extremely well. I was impressed that each character remained distinct and recognizable, even when those characters were speaking with different accents as part of a disguise.

I enjoyed the title enough that I immediately downloaded the second in the series (the first was not available from Audible at this time) and placeded the rest of Liss' titles in my WishList group.
