I'm not a science person, but I do like learning new things. This book satisfied my desire to read something interesting with my quest for knowledge by telling both the science story and the human interest story in one. Skloot's novel travels between the 1950s (and even before) when Henrietta Lacks dies and her cells are harvested, to the present day when she is updating the reader on the status of those cells and Skloot's own quest for information to write this book. She slides through time by including a timeline and the top of each chapter so the reader instantly knows what time period Skloot is focused.
