Though I usually read books cover to cover, this one was left behind during several recent trips (partly due to its voluminous size). Maybe that's why I had a bit of trouble following the narrative twists and turns. This story seems to take itself a little too seriously, compared to the simple human drama of Morton's previous books. That said, the language is stunning, the descriptions captivating, and the family ties intricately woven. It's worth the effort to follow the story.
