A good, brief introduction to Cluniac monasticism. Cluny was the biggest, richest, and most powerful religious centre of the 11th and 12th centuries; its abbey church was enormous and extremely influential. As religious priorities changed, Cluny declined in importance and the buildings were finally almost entirely destroyed during the French Revolution and the following decades. I enjoyed the book but longed for pictures of the architecture and manuscripts Mullins discusses.
