Really interesting and worth a read for anyone who likes speculative fiction, especially if said spec fic has a hint of Handmaid's Tale about it in its treatment of dystopian gender politics. The relationships are complicated and interesting -- in particular the relationships between the three wives, who are all fully developed and completely believable and heartbreaking -- and the world-building is solid. It's very effective to throw mortality in the face of adolescents. Only caveat -- the female relationship and the complicated marital dynamics were so absorbing that I kind of forgot about the love interest while he was locked in the basement.
