This is a good book that is very adventurous and exciting. It is about a young boy who is a dishwasher. He is wanting to climb the great Citadel just like his father. His father died climbing the Citadel and all Rudi has left is a red shirt that belonged to him. Rudi, who is the main character, gets made fun of because he does the dishes and cant climb the mountain like the other boys. The person that bullies him the most is Klaus Wesselhof. He calls him angelface and other bad names. But one day his Uncle and Captain winter take him to practice climbing. Once they have practiced enough they try to climb the citadel. During their climbing they have accidents. When they are close to the top it is only Rudi and Saxo. Saxo falls and gets trapped and hurts his arm. Rudi keeps thinking if he should help him or not. After all the mean things Saxo said and did to Rudi he decides to go down and help him. Even though Rudi did not climb to the top Captain Winter still tells everybody he conquered it. They all believe him because they see the Red shirt that Franz put up their. They then all call Rudi the conquerer and he isn't made fun of anymore.
