Farther Than Any Man: The Rise and Fall of Captain James Cook
by Martin Dugard
by Martin Dugard
Good solid book on the voyages on Captain Cook, who was considered one of the greatest if not the greatest traveler of all time. I think that had to do more on how long out to sea he did. I read Dugard's book on Columbus Final Voyage and just by chance got the The Training Ground The Mexican War (not knowing he wrote it) and really like that them, so I wanted to read some thing else of his. It was a good choice. There are about his 3 trips and his transformation as a person. Unfortunately his ego got the best of him, which lead to his Fall.
The only thing that I was disappointed with was the the last "leg" of his 1st trip wasn't in as much detail as the beginning of the trip and the other trips seemed to have a lot of missing time periods. This could have been because nothing was going on or just missing from history. I am not sure. But a good read.
