3 stars – Romantic Suspense
This was a fairly entertaining romantic suspense read, but I was a little disappointed.
--The hero was a brooding, self-pitying a**hole who treated the heroine like sh*t for a lot of the book. I just didn’t care much for Zak.
--I liked the heroine, but the premise for her being in Venezuela seemed somewhat far-fetched. I didn’t find it very believable that a play-it-safe, boring girl-next-door from Kansas would become such a sex kitten, jungle survivor queen so easily. But even though he was a jerk, it was kinda funny when Zak teased Acadia by calling her various Barbie nicknames.
--I figured out the villain, so the big, shocking plot twist wasn’t much of a surprise to me, and the climax showdown scene was rather ridiculous and outlandish, even for Romancelandia.
--The paranormal element was completely irrelevant and unnecessary, and I think it would have been better as a straight romantic suspense.
--There’s a nice HEA, but it was a little too late for me to warm up to Zak.
--The vague cliffhanger regarding Zak’s brother Gideon has me curious about the next book, but I’ll probably wait for reviews before spending another $7.99.
Overall, Hush is a decent, not great, romantic suspense read, especially given my lack of enthusiasm for the hero. 3 stars.
Here’s my Zak casting. (Yeah, he might be a jerk, but he’s still ripped and hot!)

I just don't get why Adair keeps insisting on going the paranormal route! Her books are all really good except for the paranormal ones - and I think those would be better without that element in them. She needs to choose to either go fully romantic suspense or commit more to the paranormal element in these books. That is what is holding me back from really wanting this one
LOL! He is kinda veiny, but I still think he's hot. Anymore and it would definitely be too much. The PNR twist isn't that significant, so it didn't bother me too much, but it just seemed pointless and better left out.
Oh no, you didn't like? What's happening to us?:DI was thoroughly entertained..but I was worried about the paranormal element. Apparently Zak's "gift" will be the reason/focus behind the trilogy.
Yes, I agree that Zak started out as an a**, and his reason for acting that way was kinda flimsy...but you know me, I went with the flow and enjoyed it!
I don't know, Auntee. I had high hopes, but I just thought it was an okay/average RS read.I hated Zak in the beginning, and even though he appreciated Acadia more as it went on, I just never really warmed up to him that much.
But what really made me roll my eyes and lower my rating was the twist/climax ending with (view spoiler), which was sooo ridiculous and over the top. (view spoiler)
I read some amazing 5+ reads before this, so maybe my expectations were just too high.
Yeah...it was too crazy! I think after reading several strong 5 star reads lately, like Face of Danger, Seduction & Scandal, Eleven Scandals to Start to Win a Duke's Heart, and Breaking Point, that this just suffered in comparison. I might have enjoyed it more in a different mood.
Loved your review and pic, Shawna!! I'm looking forward to reading Hush and seeing where I fall between your
and Auntee's
...
Thanks, Ragus! LOL! You always have the cutest emoticons! I didn't hate it or anything, but I didn't feel the love for it either.
Great review and pic. I don't mind veiny, but I would have preferred a little cushioning, perhaps even love handles. I've not read the book, but based on what I have read by this author I'm on Team Shawna.
Shawna wrote: "Rumble in Romancelandia! LMAO!"LOL!
I'm going to have my work cut out for me, it seems...:)
I've got this one up next, just finishing up When You Dare. Between both reviews, I'm absolutely dying to read it! :)

I love you two!!! I didn't mean to start a rumble, but since I have ... LOL ... it's ON now!!!
Don't worry...Auntee and I are still sistas and agreeing 99% of the time ain't bad.But yeah, it's definitely ON!
BTW, I'm the rebel with the red bandana! LMAO!!!!
J/K...Love and hugs all around!
It looks like you ventured off Jack Sparrow's pirate ship. LOL! I've probably got camo pants, bullets crisscrossed on my chest, and a gold tooth. LMAO!
Oh, man-oh-man! Rumble in Romancelandia! LMAO! This is going to be epic ! I'll have to read it just to see which team I fall in with.
Love the emots, Ragus, too cute!
Auntee wrote: "Would that make me or you Johnny Depp?"LOL! I don't know...maybe I'll be Penelope Cruz!
Rumble makes me think of the Greasers vs Socs or Jets vs Sharks. ROFLMAO!
Thanks, Lisa Kay! Make sure and report back with which team you fall in. LOL!
Well- I'm team Shawna on this one. I did like the set-up... and was even ok with his ass-ness based on his *sob* former issues with a lying lady. It just did not work for me. The "me so horny" after nearly dying and while waiting/hoping brother would show, etc... it was so over top it pulled me out of story. Yeah... thumbs down. (but great review!)
Welcome to the Sharks gang, May! ROTFLMAO!!!!!!Too funny, Lisa Kay! I almost fell off my computer chair when I saw this!
hey Shawna..i'm about to start this read...loved your review but i've always loved Cherry Adair and think she can do no wrong but we'll see! I'll let you know. :)
LOL! You all are so funny...I've finished the first chapter and I'm dancing for the Jets so far!!!! But the rumble is still early....I'll keep you all posted! :)
Thanks, Yvonne! It grabbed me in the beginning, but then it really dragged in the middle and the ending was pretty outlandish. And as Auntee can attest to, I wasn't a Zak fan by any means. Make sure and sharpen your blade and practice your finger snaps and spin dance moves if you plan to switch sides and join the Sharks...ROTFLMAO!!!!
Keep us posted! LOL! :)
Well..drum roll.....is there such a thing as Jark or maybe a Shart because I have to give this one 4 Stars! LOL There were parts I really liked...Zak (bit of an ass but that was OK, Gideon was great). I did not like Acadia...just did not like her AT ALL. Granted I'm hard on my heroines but she annoyed me everytime she spoke. I had to deduct a star for Ms. Gray! Otherwise, I still love Cherry Adair! :)
Jark or a Shart? LMAO, Yvonne! You're right...Acadia was annoying, too. I didn't like any of the characters except Gideon.LOL, Auntee!
Hahaha....I'm sorry Auntee, I'm a little tough on my heroines. I think it was all her "lying" in the beginning and I swear I wanted to like her 25 pocket vest but I just couldn't! But other than that I loved the book and will always be a true blue Cherry Adair Fan. :)
I appreciate the review, Shawna. I was thinking about buying this one to break my Cherry Adair fast. Not sure now. (off to check out Auntee's review)
Auntee's Jets need you, Danielle. :)I think part of my lack of enthusiasm for this was that I'd read two 5+ stellar reads, Dragon Bound and Breaking Point, right before, so it fell a bit flat.
And it has annoying characters and some really outlandish plot devices.
I don't know, but looking at the reviews there seems to be a few Jarks and Sharts. LOL!Maybe we can forfeit and just call it a draw? "Can't we all just get along?" LOL!
