I stopped in at the County library today, looking for a fix. I wanted something light and funny. I walked out with three Jennifer Crusie novels that I'd never read, and I finished this one within a few hours. It was exactly what I wanted.
As the cover copy explains, Nell and Gabe are both divorced. Nell's been in a bad place since her divorce; she's depressed, and she doesn't even have the desire to eat. Her friend, Suze, tells her that Gabe needs a secretary, and since Nell finally reaches the stage where she wants to move forward, she goes to the interview.
Gabe has been divorced for years. His ex-wife was smarter than him a number of ways; she'd realized that no matter how much they loved each other, they were not each other's soul mates. Their divorce doesn't put much of a crimp in their sexual relationship. However, Chloe, his sort-of-ex, decides its finally time to end things. She needs to take her life forward, and she can't do that if she stays with Gabe where it's comfortable.
Alone, looking for new lives, Gabe and Nell are drawn to one another, but at the same time leary of this attraction they feel. Having been burned before, they're both scared to take their relationship outside of work, to invest in each other emotionally.
