Kind of a mid grade Spenser novel. Spenser is hired by a newspaper owner to find out who killed a cub reporter named Carlos Valdez who was looking at a drug cartel in Wheaton. One of the more violent of the Spenser books, although it is the corrupt cops rather than the drug people who are responsible for most of the killings.
