** spoiler alert ** The Hunger Games and Catching Fire were so phenomenal that my expectations were high for this one. I was sooo disappointed. I'll admit, I'm a sucker for happy endings. I knew that in order to stay real, the story couldn't have a perfect happy ending. But I was hoping that despite everything Katniss would overcome all the hardships and like the title, she'd somehow remerge like a phoenix- or in this case, mockingjay- rising from the ashes of her pain as the strong kickass girl we all came to love in the first two books. When she loses Prim it was like those awful movie scenes were the dog dies. Prim was the whole reason Katniss went to the games in the first place and in my mind, she stood for the humanity and love that even war and persecution cannot destroy. With the loss of Prim, Gale and Cinna, its understandable that Katniss was so completely broken by the end. It just felt the story line spiraled out of control and lacked the heart of the other two books.
