** spoiler alert ** Kate and Tully meet in middle school and become best friends. Kate has an idyllic all American family life while Tully is being raised by her grandparents. Tully's mother is in and out of her life and has a nomadic hippie/stoner lifestyle. The book follows them as they grow up and the paths their lives take. I found much of the story to be predictable no surprises in the plot at all. The relationship between the two women and Kate's husband is more interesting than just the two women but Johnny never gets strong play. During his biggest share of the plot line he's in a coma. A daughter is thrown in to add some excitement but she is mainly a distracting brat. Right from the start she is over the top. I raced through to the end just to finish since this was a book club selection. I wanted to get started on something else or finish another book and not spend anymore time on Firefly Lane.
