bookshelves: fantasy, politics, science-fiction, first-reads
Read in December, 2010

** spoiler alert ** I borrowed this from a library, and it took me a while to actually open the book, but when I started reading it I was blown away. Interesting aliens, human politics, psychology, insights like the advantages of multiple states vs. a single planetary society... I was going to rate it 5 stars and re-read it again, but the ending sort of spoils the story. It's the worst deus-ex-machina that I've ever seen. The story begins as a science-fiction and turns into a freaking fantasy at the end almost. Why! So yeah, four stars, but it's still a very good story right up to the end...

I won this book through First Reads. I suppose to be fair, I'll need to re-read it. Since I completely missed any clues with regards to the afore-mentioned deus-ex-machina, perhaps finishing Dracula first would be helpful.
