Abandoned. While I liked the idea of a steampunk novel and the clash between machines and genetically-modified animals, I just couldn't get into the story. Maybe because there really is no plot! The Alek escaping chapters just dragged. And while I liked Deryn's chapters with her disguised as a boy to be an airman on a huge beastie, I got barking sick of her calling everyone a bum-rag. It was over 200 pages in before the two stories interconnected, and even then it wasn't heading anywhere. It felt like looking at someone's really intricately designed machine with lots of gears and levers and buttons and flashing lights...that don't do anything useful. I just couldn't get excited about it. Beautiful drawings, though.
