I have not a read a book this fast in a long time! I enjoyed it so much! At first I felt she had not paid enough attention to his running days and felt cheated; I wanted to know more. But once I got into his at-sea experience, I could not put it down. I was amazed at my lack of knowledge as to how the Japanese treated the Chinese and Koreans, not to mention the POWs.
The Bird was by far the most brutal of all, a coward throughout the whole story and certainly not remorseful enough for me to redeem him in anyway. I leave that to Louis.
I loved how Louis redeems himself and his family after he finds God; he is one person to admire. The work he has done with kids that could end up in gutters, is beyond admirable. This was a great story. I highly recommend it.
