I was a little worried when I started reading this book. McKinney just kept introducing characters and I thought it was going to get bogged down, too many stories and none of them told well. Boy was I wrong! This book is EPIC zombie storytelling. We move from Vegas to Florida and many points in-between and never does a character feel like cardboard. Even the retired marshall, who seems like something out of a cowboy movie, has depth. I'm a little jealous because I've had a zombie movie I've been wanting to produce for a while that has Existential/absurdist themes, but McKinney went and got his done first. I mean using Camus, I was gonna do that! :)

Seriously this book was great. Along the vein of "the real monsters are us" sort of theme, but the zombies are just as terrifying as they were in his first book in this series. I look forward to many more! I hope there are many more!
