it was ok

I might have liked this more if it had not been so hyped. It was a compelling enough thriller, of the historical conspiracy theory ilk, but I found it very lightweight. It's its claims (and those made by its supporters in the media)that it's something more than it is that really irk me. It's not an insightful, authentic historical novel. It's not a great "literary" work. It's just Dan Brown with pretensions.

And the smug middle-class epilogue, where it suddenly morphed from The Da Vinci Code to Escape To The Country, did my head in.
