really liked it

I hovered between three and four stars for this. I really enjoyed this book, but in the way that I really enjoyed the Da Vinci Code or Murder On the Orient Express. Yes, the quality of the writing is much, much better than Dan Brown or Agatha Christie, but it's strengths, IMO, are in its suspense and tension, not its underlying themes or literary scope. The plot is, frankly, contrived and melodramatic and I'm mystified as to how its attained its status as a literary classic. I'd highly recommend it, though, as an unputdownable read.
