bookshelves: failures

I did not finish this book. I made it a third of the way through, all the while hoping that perhaps he would begin to talk about actually living in the woods instead of just complaining about how everybody should live in the woods, and then I stopped. Maybe he does later on. But seriously, I got tired of all the whining about other people. Blerg.

Shana I agree totally. I think this book must have been a hit when that idea was some kind of radical thought, when people were forming the "back to the land" movement after WWII. For us who already feel that it's important to get outdoors and breathe fresh air, it's just a dudder.

message 2: by Ammie (new) - added it

Ammie Oddly enough, I discussed this with someone who'd gotten her degree in lit while I was at work today, and she totally agreed. She said she'd faked her way through a test on Walden because she just couldn't get through the damn thing.
