I ended up liking this book more than I expected to. At first the characters were undeveloped and I wasn't sold on the plot either. I'm not really into survival stories, and I have no knowledge of sailing, so I wasn't terribly interested. However, the human interest builds as the story continues. I loved the way everything came together in the end--the depth surprised me. The author pulls everything into the stories they tell each other and the novel itself takes on an allegorical feeling. The development of the relationships among the brothers is the best part of the book.
