As a survey of western history (after a lifetime of research), its probably not all that bad. But, as far as I'm concerned, the Durants' prose makes them appear like they're way UP there... armchair historians that simply fail to engage the reader -- i.e. me. I've read this thrice already; wherein, finally, I have to concede that further illumination can't be squeezed out anymore.

The review by Danger Kallisti notes important objections to the book that I certainly can I agree with. Although, as for his definition of art, eh... it doesn't register to my mind.
