I really enjoyed this book -- much more than I thought I would when I first started it. I had a little experience with Eliot in college, though I don't remember much of it, and I expected her work to be much drier and difficult to wade through. But upon reading the Mill on the Floss, I find her to be more a unique combination of Dickens and the Bronte sisters -- the story had the doom and gloom of Wuthering Heights, but with far more complex and enjoyable characterizations, and just the right tinge of hope and redemption. It's by no means a short read, and requires a significant devotion of time and patience, but if you enjoy the classics it's definitely a beautiful, and at times even comical, and worthwhile read.
