Part of a book exchange with Laura. I read this, despite Brandon Sanderson being a mormon, and Laura will read a Culture novel. Eventually. So we'll see how this goes.

A highly competent piece of epic fantasy. A fairly interesting system of burning metal for magic abilities. Sanderson built a world where most of the consequences of metal being magic are taken in to account. His writing is brisk, though his penchant for anime-style leaping and swirling mists got to be a bit much by the end of it.

I honestly have no desire to read the sequels. This one book had a solid story arch and I didn't feel like there was anything to continue beyond that point with. All the characters got what was coming and they all lived more happily ever after. Seems like a reasonable place to stop for me.
