I love Follett, he never takes fame for granted and every book is well done. This book is a great way to learn about the events leading to World War One and the toll it took. However, it is very heavy on history, so it takes some work to read. The characters were a bit less engaging than some in his earlier books. I had a hard time relating to some of the main characters. But he's a great storyteller, so I got through the nearly 1000 pages without much trouble. Try it if you like historical fiction as a way of learning history.

Randi Reisfeld Your review comes at just the right time -- I'm driving to Florida (!) and took this audio book out of the library for "company" for the drive, hoping my husband and I would get engrossed in it. Since we're both into historical fiction--and Follett fans--sounds like we will.
