I recommend this book to anyone who'd like to learn a little more about the history of Afghanistan and Pakistan and what one man has helped to spearhead into one of the most inspirational selfless journeys. Greg Mortonson had dedicated his life to the education of one of the most destitute, poor and forgotten groups of people, young girls and women in Afghanistan, a war torn country run ruthlessly by the Taliban. What makes this book so amazing is the collaboration of so many people from different religions, cultures, and backgrounds in the united purpose of creating a safe, non religious environment where children (but particularly girls) can feel safe and learn. Educating women empowers them to become healthier, independant, contributors to society and has a trickle down effect enabling them to pass on these benefits to friends and family and overall provides them with increased earning capability for themselves and their families. Absolutely touching and amazing and every bit as wonderful and heartning as his first book, "Three Cups of Tea"
