Gritty, grimy, miserable Glasgow. I can't get enough - as long as I don't have to live there (Though, actually, I was there two years ago and it was quite nice - except for the rain). One of the reviewer's on the back of the book called Mina's stories 'sordid' and I can't but agree. It was hard to get it fixed in my head just exactly how young Paddy is in this book (18) - with her fad diets and neighborhood boyfriend, in some ways she's a lot like a contemporary YA heroine. It's just that there's all the miserable drunks and the baby murders.
