Blow Fly (Scarpetta Book 12)
by Patricia Cornwell
I agree. Blow Fly was not one of her best. I have heard that she is bipolar, and since she's been on her meds she hasn't been the same. Seriously. There is one book where she writes in the voices of animals (Isle of Dogs). Awful!

I chose this book to start Cornwell's Kay Scarpetta series because it's the volume in which she moves to Delray Beach, just down the road from me.
I've got to say, I was quite disappointed. I'm not sure if this book was ghostwritten or not (damn you, James Patterson, for making ghostwriting entries in a series an acceptable thing), but the author didn't seem to be able to keep the canon straight. Even beyond the major canon of the series, he/she kept contradicting canon set early in this volume. It was very frustrating.
I liked the characters, and I might try one more book in the series to see if it improves, but I was definitely not impressed.
This is a bargain-basement version of Kathy Reichs's "Bones" series.
