Are you sick of your monotonous, boring, run of the mill life? Do you feel like nothing exciting ever happens to you? Well before you start wishing for something earth-shattering to occur, you should read “Life as We Knew It” by Susan Beth Pfeffer.
Miranda is an average teenager living in rural Pennsylvania. At first, the fact that a meteor is going to strike the moon only means extra assignments in every class. But the meteor turns out to be much larger than anyone anticipated and it knocks the moon out of its orbit. It doesn’t take long for the aftershocks to start happening all over the world. Tsunamis, earthquakes and volcano eruptions soon become common occurrences. Lucky for Miranda, her mother is smart and immediately starts stockpiling food, warm clothing, medicines, bottled water and other necessities. But at least for the foreseeable future, “life as they knew it” is over.
