really liked it

I really enjoyed this leisurely walk through another time in another girls shoes. Calpurnia reminds me so much of my 9 year old daughter. Perhaps that's why I enjoyed the book. It could also be the rich descriptions of a southern summer or the the cantankerous, civil war veteran grandpa and his laboratory in the shed. There was a particularly moving story he told of his days in the war that involved a bat.

Yes, Ms. Kelly's skillful character crating was a big reason I looked forward to quiet evenings with this book.
And, like most good books, the ending is perhaps not what you thought it would be. That's all I'm going to say about that.
