As with any Atwood book... odd but good! This was a continuation of some reading in high school and college and picked up where Homer left off. Told from the perspective of Penelope, Odysseus' wife, of her trials and tribulations from childhood to death. She tells us the story from Hades... where she is continually plagued by Helen the vain cousin and whom she sees and the reason for many of her troubles in life. Knowing the characters and the back story assisted but I do not think it was entirely necessary. I actually wish it were longer... and was shocked to suddenly be at the end.
