Nightwalker (Dark Days, #1)

I was reluctant to read this at first because of the title. Since 'nightwalker' is another word for 'prostitute', I was worried it would be another porn novel by some middle-aged woman in America trying to make herself money. Turns out there wasn't all that much sex, which is good.
We are introduced to the main character, Myra, and her wierd power very early on. And there is no beating-about-the-bush about it either. She's a vampire that can make fire, which is pretty cool since they are mortal enemies and whatnot. She's an okay heroine, considering the genre she's in. Most 'Dark Romance' heroines are Mary-Sues who can't do anything for themselves except sit in a corner and wail while their man cuts down the evil guy with his massive sword. Myra actually got out there and killed some ass, which was pretty impressive. Then, in walks Danaus. He's some random immortal guy who hates vampires for no good reason ('they are creatures of satan!' is not a reason). They get together and kill some fairy things (the naturi, the fancy way of saying evil fairies) which they are supprisingly bad at, considering how they are freaking fairies. There's some whole backstory about how evil the naturi are and whatnot, but it's pretty irrelevant until the next book.
The plot was highly predictable and Danaus was very annoying, but Myra was a fairly likable heroine. The evil guys were ridiculous, though. I gave the book to my creepily like-minded friend to read and she demanded the sequel off me about five hours later. She liked it a lot (although this should be regarded with some concern because she also likes Sherrilyn Kenyon's porn - I mean, books).
If you like kick-ass sort-of-heroines fighting fairies, go for it.
