Caroline It's been ages since I've read 'Being There'. Too long perhaps. I loved it.

And it looks like the edition you're reading has incorporated the film adaptation. That's Peter Sellers I believe. The movie is worth watching if only for his performance. He was brilliant in every picture he made.

Jenny I loved the film when I saw it several years ago, because of Peter Sellers. However, I didn't really like the book that much. It ended with no real resolution and was pretty unbelievable. I guess it was some kind of commentary on how people will see what they want to see. Since Chance was a blank canvas, people projected their wants and expectations on to him. No one ever asked him what he wanted. In the last scene, he walks out into a garden and seems to have some peace. I can't recall how the film ended.
