it was ok

As with all of Hawthorne's long-form prose, The Blithedale Romance suffers from self-important ponderousness, though this novel at least has rare flashes of humor; and yet, Hawthrone's scenes remain more alive in memory than they ever are on the page, a kind of alchemy that makes slogging through the doldrums of the text almost worthwhile, so that you can jump from scene to scene more purposefully later, in your imagination.
