Audio Book/ Older YA Lit Pre-1920s
Harvey Cheyne is a rich and spoiled 15-year old who has never had to do anything himself in his life. when he is accidentally thrown off a transatlantic ship steamship he is rescued by a small fishing vessel. The captain, Disco Troop, and his men don't believe Harvey is from a wealthy family and refuse to take him to shore until they get to their final destination at the end of the summer. Troop offers to give Harvey a job until that time, with no other choice, Harvey accepts. By the end of the summer, Harvey learns the value of hard work and when he returns to his parents, they are pleasantly surprised to see a mature young man who they can no see inheriting the family business.
This book is about friendship and growing up. It's a classic coming of age story. I liked it but I didn't love it. I think I would've preferred reading it, I'm really not a fan of audio books, because I'm such a visual learner I really don't get as much out of text if I'm listening to it as opposed to reading. I'd recommend the book to boy teens--it's a fun but also classic tale of sea that teenage boys would find interesting.
