Todd Strasser lives up to his reputation as a writer in this piece. Boot Camp is a relative page-turner. It's hard not to like the protagonist as he weathers his time in a rogue boot camp located in Upstate New York. The "cavalry" ending is probably the only disappointment in the book. Of note is knowing that such sadistic, unregulated boot camps actually exist where approximately 10000 teens are subjected to immoral and illegal forms of discipline where they enjoy even fewer human rights than adult death row inmates.
