This cozy promises to be a fun new series. It was a quick read, and I liked the spunky main character, Suzanne. I am hoping though that future books in the series move a bit from the typical cozy formula - amateur sleuth tries to solve crime while being pursued by the real murderer, falls for the one good cop on the job (the others are good for nothing), has the quirky best friend, etc. I think Jessica Beck will find her groove as she develops the characters further in future books. I did appreciate that the story is not overly populated with too many extraneous characters. I did not need to keep a running list of characters as often happens in cozies when authors try to add too many red herrings. My main criticism is that I got an enormous craving for donuts while reading this!!
