The Way of Kings demonstrates why Brandon Sanderson has climbed to the top of the fantasy genre. It still possesses Sanderson's distinct style, but he has improved greatly as a writer (and I absolutely loved the Mistborn Trilogy). The scope is larger, the characters more dynamic, and the plot more advanced and interesting. One of my favorite aspects of The Way of Kings is actually the cyclical writing pattern. After each character viewpoint ended, I was craving for the action to continue. However, Sanderson completely changes gears and switches to another character, leaving me slightly frustrated. But by the second page of the new chapter, I found myself captivated yet again. In the final 40 pages, Sanderson revealed some unbelievably creative connections and set up book two of the Stormlight Archive masterfully. I recommend The Way of Kings to everyone who enjoys epic fantasy.
