it was amazing
bookshelves: vampires

I thought 'The Historian' was absolutely brilliant. It was 1st class horror in epistolary form. I'm not sure how to describe it, but it was absolutely brilliant. I keep meaning to reread it - it's that good. My mother got it as a christmas present from my aunt, but didn't really want to read it so she let me read it first because I liked vampire books. I finished it in under a week.

The characters are complex. The narrator is never given a name, which I think is part of her charm. She stays anonymous but that appeals more to the reader because it's easier to picture yourself as her, in her situations with her emotions and background. The other characters are all well-rounded and convincing, if eccentric for the most part.

The mythology was fascinating. I think it stayed true to most of the Dracularian mythology, but the book with the dragon? That was very interesting. I wouldn't mind recieving one of those myself...

Overall, amazing. Well worth the £8.99.
