PI Joe Hannibal is torn by grief when his friends Bomber Brannigan and Liz Grimaldi are killed in an apparent auto accident on a visit to Bomber’s sister in Nebraska.

But grief turns to anger when Abby Bridger, Bomber’s niece, calls shortly after the funeral and informs Joe of gossip casting aspersions on the character of his friends. The news conflicts with what he knows of them and Joe heads back to Nebraska, determined to root out the truth.

Teaming up with Abby, they confront a murderous conspiracy which puts them on a collision course with rightwing militia, a dangerous terrorist, the FBI and Homeland Security. Things go from bad to worse when Abby’s nine-year-old son is kidnapped.

In the midst of all this, Joe is torn by the wrenching revelation his long relationship with Jan Mosby has crashed and probably burned.

Get set for nail-biting action and suspense as Joe and Abby work to sort things out with the help of a few unexpected allies.
