Beneath the Dark Ice (Alex Hunter, #1)
by Greig Beck (Goodreads Author)
by Greig Beck (Goodreads Author)
On his website, author Greig Beck writes that he grew up reading Wells, Burroughs, and other classic writers; it shows in his first book, where he takes elements of the technothriller - gadgets and guns and the guys who use them - throws in the Antarctic, and then mixes it with heavy doses of big man-eating monsters and ancient mysteries. This is a neat adventure with neat ideas and a handful of exciting scenes. It's also short and to the point. I had fun.

| 12/04/2010 | "more than half-way through, and enjoying the adventure. at first blush, the set-up seemed quotidian, and i called the ending; then, everything i expected went down in about a dozen pages, and the story opened up with tantalizing promise. i have to say: for a first book, this has good stuff." |
