Since the Surrender (Pennyroyal Green #3)

** spoiler alert **
I was a bit disappointed in this. I think because I know JAL can write a lot better (I absolutely loved TO LOVE A THIEF, BEAUTY AND THE SPY, and LIKE NO OTHER LOVER). The mystery wasn't very engaging, and honestly, I had a hard time following it at times. The hero is getting messages from puppets? Seriously? The vulgar humor just wasn't very funny to me (code names like Mr. Welland-Dowd and O. McCaucas-Bigg). And really, the hero and heroine are investigating a mystery in the museum, and they bring along weapons, since it might get dangerous, but they decide to go and use a bed at the museum to make love? Come on! Couldn't they just do it at her home before heading to the museum? That would have made more sense to me.
I was also a bit disappointed that the plot thread was left dangling about the hero's relative who might have the ability to heal people. I'm assuming the author was setting up her next book, but I wanted to know more, but I guess I'll have to get ahold of the next novel in the series for that.
The hero and heroine had great sexual tension, but I felt their romance got overshadowed by the mystery. And since I didn't like the mystery all that much, I felt a little short-changed.
I ended up skimming the last 100 pages just to get to the bottom of the mystery.
Oh well. I just hope the next one is better.
