I'm kind of undecided as to whether or not I actually liked this book. It was an enjoyable story that reminded me of a short story by Gabriel Garcia Marquez, the one where a creature with wings is discovered in a village. Anyway, we've got a family moving into a dilapidated house with an even more decrepit shed in the backyard. While Michael's parents are busy with his new-born sister, who is barely clinging to life, he discovers a strange man lounging in the ratty shed. He gradually becomes less scared and more curious as the strange man continues to remain parked in the shed. Michael meets his new neighbor, a quirky home-schooled girl named Mina, who helps change his views on the world and ultimately helps him protect the mysterious stranger. I'm still not exactly sure what Skellig is supposed to be, nor do I know why he was in the shed or why he is able to do what he does. I liked the tone of the story and found it rather charming, if occasionally inexplicable.
