Based on this book's concept (a valentine poem written for the ladies on postcards every year) and the topos (courtly romance in a modern setting), I don't know what I expected--but this wasn't quite it.
The poems are quiet and thoughtful, sometimes you have to re-read them a few times to see their romance. Sometimes you understand right off the bat. It was a good addition to my Ted Kooser
reading, but I'd recommend starting off with Braided Creek
before reading this.
