I just finished The Alchemyst Book one in Michael Scott's series The Secrets of The Immortal Nicholas Flamel. I can't wait for book two. In all seriousness, the book is not that fantastic, the beginning reads like a movie, and there are too many specific references to current pop culture, (for example, Green Day, blue tooth, iPod, etc,) but I really enjoyed reading it. I thought it brought up some interesting theories and mythology. First off its fiction, but according to the plot, every myth is actually true, and human have dulled their sense as our society has advanced. We have dulled the sense of touch, hearing, tasting, smelling, seeing, etc, and we make up for it in words. Which incidentally really corresponds with the Internet community, with things like social networking, and blogging, we never have any interaction other than words. After reading the book, I want to improve my senses, but I don't know if thats possible, without magic. It also has some interesting ideas about energy and auras. I thought it was a lot of fun to read. Oh here is the bases of the plot Nicholas Flamel and his wife are immortal, through their discovery of the Philosopher stone (all you Harry Potter fans, JK Rowlings did not invent most of her mythology) they are entrusted to safe guard a book, when another immortal comes and steals it. Normal twin teenagers get wrapped up in the mess and thats how the plot takes off. Oh its a little weird, but good in my opinion.
