** spoiler alert ** Quite interesting that I first read "Christ the Lord" by Anne Rice and then backtracked about ten years to read another of her books, the last in the vampire series, "Memnoch the Devil".

"Memnoch the Devil" deals with Lestat battling between the existence of heaven and hell -- but not quite as we know it. For the first time, I considered -- did Jesus know he was divine and would rise up from the dead, and if so, did that temper how he felt about being human?

Poor Lestat just had a moral quandary on his hands and you found yourself feeling for him, if you hadn't already by the time you got to this last book of the series.

Three issues I had:

1) Maybe reading this while ill wasn't the best thing, because I had to skim some of the deeper esoteric, theologically deep sections.

2) WHY oh WHY did Dora desert Lestat at the end?????? I'd love some comments on that.

3) WHY did Memnoch think he won? Again, I'd love comments on that.

Glad I read the book. Just hate feeling confused and stumped -- but then, most good books DO make one think, even after the last page is turned.

Chris Just an FYI, but Memnoch isn't the last in the Anne Rice vampire series; although it was by far my favorite.

Lori Anderson Oh! Good to know!
