In so many ways, an amazing book, wonderfully well written and utterly believable. Donoghue is a daring writer, attempting to show whole experiences through the filter of a five-year-old boy whose life experience is circumscribed by the boundary's of his and his mother's lives within the titular room where she is held captive by Old Nick. The subtext is startlingly real and of course informs the story more than the boy Jack can. The book is, blessedly, not long, because while I wanted to love this story, I think that subtext and the real reality of the book so creeped me out that I could not...
