This book made me so sad. I didn't realize how pervasive white supremacy was. It seemed to just be common knowledge that the white man was superior. That is why people could push to the west and get rid of all of the indians. Teddy Roosevelt apparently thought we could just push all the way across Asia and get rid of the people just like we did the indians. He didn't seem to be evil about it but since the white man was superior it just made sense. Boy did the United States mess up and boy did we pay for it. It turns out his rough rider personna and Western rancher personna were all staged carefully by him. In fact - he seems to be responsible for the Spanish-American war. I am disappointed and sad. He was definitely a product of his times though.
